Proposals Under Review
Barbara Timmermann, PhD, University Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry in the School of Pharmacy at KU-Lawrence, has submitted a Phase III COBRE proposal to the National Center for Research Resources. The purpose of the Phase III funding is to continue basic, clinical, translational research, and/or community research. An additional objective of Phase II funding is to sustain a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment by providing support for research pilot projects and mentoring and training components.
Under the leadership of Dr. Timmermann, the Center for Cancer Experimental Therapeutics at KU-Lawrence brings together researchers from the University of Kansas, both in Lawrence and at the Medical Center, Kansas State University and Emporia State University with an emphasis on fighting cancer through the discovery of potential drug therapies. Scientific projects at the leading edge of cancer research, interactions among researchers at the interface of chemistry and biology, and the strong mentoring ethic practiced by the center's senior researchers will contribute to KU's efforts toward achieving designation from the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center.
